ENGLISH & LANGUAGES

The English and International Languages department at Saint Oscar Romero Catholic Secondary School aims to prepare our students for life after high school, encouraging them to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners.

Our overall mission is to promote literacy, specifically the ability to read, write and think critically which includes the fostering of technological literacy, skills necessary for 21st century learning, such as information retrieval, research, and communication.

English classes at all grades and academic levels, including those for English language learners, are engaging and student-centered with the goal of fostering a love of reading and appreciation for good writing while teaching students to gather, analyze and communicate information effectively.

Finally, the English department at St. Oscar Romero prepares students to meet the TCDSB’s Catholic School Graduate Expectations, specifically enabling students to become “effective communicators who speak, write and listen honestly and sensitively, responding critically in light of gospel values.”
